Why We Choose 6061 Billet for .308
When building a large-frame AR, weight and finish quality matter. While we work with all materials, we prefer 6061-T6 Billet for our .308 lowers. Here is why:
- The "Rust" Factor: 6061 is inherently more resistant to oxidation than 7075. If you are hunting or shooting in humid environments, 6061 protects your investment better.
- Aesthetic Perfection: A .308 build is an investment. You don't want the "orange peel" texture often found on forged lowers. Our 6061 billet lowers are CNC machined to precise dimensions with a smooth surface that accepts Cerakote and Anodizing flawlessly.
AR-10 vs. AR-308: What is the Difference?
While often used interchangeably, the original Armalite AR-10 and the modern .308 AR (often called AR-308 or LR-308) are different platforms. Tactical Machining 80% lowers utilize the DPMS Gen 1 pattern, which is the industry standard for aftermarket support.
